Bank sync
Bank sync brings the charges from your bank or card into Eider. You choose which ones to add to a nest.
What is bank sync in Eider, and do I need Plus for it?
Bank sync connects your bank account or card to Eider, and it needs a Plus membership of your own.
Once a bank is connected, its charges arrive in Your charges, a list only you can see. To open it, tap the card icon beside the notifications bell at the top of your home screen. When you add a charge from there to a nest, it becomes an expense with the charge's amount, merchant and date.
Bank sync comes with your own Plus membership, monthly or annual. If you are covered by another member's annual membership, it is not included, because a bank connection belongs to one person.
How do I connect my bank or card to Eider?
Tap your avatar at the top of your home screen, then Connected banks & cards, then Add a bank or card. If you have never connected a bank, the card icon beside the notifications bell takes you to the same first step.
That step is a screen headed "Before we hand you to your bank". Before anything is shared, it says what Eider reads, that Eider cannot move money, and what your nests see. Tap Continue, or Not now to leave.
Plaid's window opens next. Pick your bank there and sign in. Some banks send you to their own sign-in page to approve the connection, and then back to Eider.
When you come back, you land on one of these:
- It connected
- Eider takes you to Your charges and tells you your bank is connected and how many accounts came with it. The list fills in as your history arrives.
- You closed your bank before finishing
- Eider says "Nothing was connected." Nothing was shared and nothing was saved. Tap Try again to start over, or Not now to leave.
- Your bank turned down the sign-in
- Eider says "Your bank did not accept that sign-in." This happens most often with a changed password or a code that timed out. Tap Try again and sign in once more.
- Your bank isn't answering
- Eider says your bank is not answering right now. That is on the bank's side, and nothing was lost. Tap Try again, or come back later.
- There is nothing to import
- Eider says "Nothing here we can import." The bank had no card or bank account Eider can read. Tap Try another bank.
- The bank is already connected
- Eider says the bank is already connected and importing. Connecting it twice would double every charge, so Eider stops there. Tap See your charges.
Which banks and countries are supported?
Bank sync connects to banks in the United States only.
You pick your bank from the list in Plaid's window after you tap Continue. Eider imports charges from cards and from bank accounts such as checking. Accounts of any other kind are not imported.
What does Eider read from my bank? Can Eider move money?
Eider reads your transactions and balances, read-only, and it cannot move money.
The connection carries no permission for transfers, payments or card controls. You sign in to your bank in Plaid's window rather than in Eider, and Eider never sees your bank password.
Eider never sells your data. The Privacy policy covers what is stored and why.
Do the people in my nest see my bank charges?
No. Your charges and your connected banks are yours, and nobody in your nests can see them.
What a nest sees is an expense. When you add a charge to a nest, it becomes an expense there, and the other members see it the way they see an expense typed in by hand, with the same account label. They never see your balance or any of your other charges.
A charge can also be linked to an expense the nest already has, so one purchase isn't in the nest twice. Eider links some on its own and asks you about others. If the linked expense's amount is different from the bank's, the expense usually takes the bank's amount, and the other members see that as an edit.
A connection belongs to you rather than to a nest, so its charges can go to any nest you belong to.
How far back does Eider import my charges?
Eider asks for the last 24 months of your charges when you connect.
The history arrives in the background, and Your charges fills in as it does. When it is all in, a notification under the bell says so.
To see how far back your imported charges reach, open Connected banks & cards, tap the bank, and look at History.
